Elvis Darko, editor of Newscenta newspaper, criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He spoke on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on June 2. Darko warned that media involvement in investigations can harm reputations.
He stated, “If an investigative body works through the media, they risk damage.” He emphasized that the public wants court confirmation on issues. When investigations focus on individuals rather than courts, it can backfire.
Darko's comments follow the OSP's directive for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear in person. He was asked to report to the OSP office or face extradition via INTERPOL Red Notice.
Sources close to Ofori-Atta confirmed he cannot attend due to medical emergencies. His legal team submitted medical documents detailing his ongoing treatment and surgery plans.
Frank Davies, part of Ofori-Atta’s legal team, rejected claims of deliberate avoidance. He insisted that his client's absence is due to a documented medical condition.
Davies questioned skepticism about Ofori-Atta’s health status. He noted that this condition was known before the OSP began its investigations.
He posed a rhetorical question: “If I promise to meet you but suffer a setback, would you expect me?” Davies urged people to understand that health challenges are real and serious.
