Private legal practitioner Amanda Clinton has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) decision. The OSP publicly declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta wanted again.
Amanda Clinton believes this action will alert Ofori-Atta. He could have been quietly intercepted instead. She spoke on JOY NEWS AM Show, emphasizing that a Red Notice is for law enforcement only.
“If Ghana truly wanted to locate him, the notice could be confidential,” she argued. This would alert only international law enforcement and allow for a quiet interception.
Clinton explained that the purpose of a Red Notice is to catch high-net-worth individuals traveling by private or commercial planes. Her comments follow the Special Prosecutor's announcement about issuing an INTERPOL red notice against Ofori-Atta.
On June 2, Kissi Agyebeng stated he triggered processes for this notice. It aims to locate and provisionally arrest Ken Ofori-Atta internationally, pending extradition or surrender.
The Special Prosecutor rejected Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session. According to Agyebeng, he must present himself physically to the OSP.
He said, “This office has always requested his attendance.” Agyebeng insisted they would not waive this requirement. He added that if they were willing to take statements in absentia, they would have done so earlier.
Ken Ofori-Atta has now been listed as Wanted on Interpol’s official website.
