The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) plans to file charges against officials of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
These charges are expected before the end of June 2025. They relate to an alleged corruption scheme involving over GH¢280 million. This scheme reportedly occurred between 2022 and 2024.
Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, stated that details will be provided after filing. This includes identities of those involved and assets recovered.
The OSP has identified several high-ranking NPA officials in this case. They are accused of exploiting their regulatory powers for personal gain.
According to Agyebeng, these officials arranged a corrupt scheme using their authority. They extorted large sums from oil marketing companies (OMCs) and other stakeholders.
This extortion took place between 2022 and 2024. The methods included threats, intimidation, coercion, bribery, and excessive regulatory pressure.
As of May 30, 2025, the OSP traced GH¢280,516,127.19 believed to be proceeds from this scheme. Investigators found that part of these funds was used for luxury apartments and homes in Ghana and abroad. Additionally, they acquired 22 fuel haulage trucks.
The OSP is also investigating former NPA boss Mustapha Hamid for alleged GH¢1.3 billion fraud at the NPA.
