The Office of the Special Prosecutor has issued an INTERPOL Red Notice. This notice seeks the extradition of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana.
Kissi Agyebeng held a press conference to announce this development. He stated that Ken Ofori-Atta is now considered a fugitive of justice. The Red Notice allows for international arrest and extradition.
On June 2, Kissi Agyebeng said he initiated the process for the notice. He wants Ken Ofori-Atta located and provisionally arrested in any jurisdiction. This is pending his extradition or surrender.
Agyebeng rejected Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual session with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He insisted that Ofori-Atta must appear in person.
Agyebeng emphasized, “We want him here physically, and we insist on it.” He noted that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted.
The OSP previously accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state. This includes issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts involving the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Meanwhile, Frank Davies, a member of Ofori-Atta's legal team, defended his client’s absence. He stated that Ofori-Atta is currently receiving treatment in the United States.
Davies questioned why people struggle to understand his client's health issues. He argued that if someone is unwell, they cannot attend meetings as planned.
He added that Ken's health challenges were known before these charges arose.
