The Registrar of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA), Dr. Yaw Twerefuor, has directed all funeral and mortuary facilities in Ghana to secure licenses by February 2025 to ensure a safe and regulated working environment.
Speaking at the dissemination of inspection tools to facility operators, Dr. Twerefuor outlined that facilities will undergo inspections to verify compliance with operational standards, including essential infrastructure like water, refrigeration, and backup power systems.
Facilities with minor gaps will receive leniency to address these issues, but non-compliant ones will not be allowed to operate.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health’s vision to modernize and regulate the mortuary and funeral industry, promoting public health and safety.
MoFFA’s Board Chairman, Prof. Edward Kofi Wiredu, emphasized adherence to the new regulations to avoid penalties.
