Schools in Obuasi and Obuasi East municipalities have been closed for two days following deadly clashes between illegal miners and military personnel at an AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) concession.
The violent altercation, which began after miners allegedly breached a security fence, left at least eight miners dead and several others injured.
The Ghana Armed Forces claimed they fired in self-defense after being attacked, while miners accused the military of unprovoked gunfire.
In retaliation, miners destroyed four vehicles and a shop, escalating tensions in the area.
Municipal education authorities have suspended classes to ensure safety amid heightened security.
Residents express fear over the recurring violence, while political leaders, including Samuel Aboagye and President Mahama, have called for accountability and assistance for victims, urging AngloGold Ashanti to investigate and cover medical costs.
