A tragic armed robbery occurred on Wednesday, April 23, in Offinso South Municipality, Ashanti Region. A bus conductor, known as a 'trotro mate', was killed during the attack.
The incident happened along the Ayinasusu–Salam road. Two men pretending to be passengers boarded a trotro bus. A third accomplice then emerged from nearby bushes and shot the conductor.
Ibrahim Yogo, the Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, confirmed the incident to Citi News. The robbers pointed a gun at the driver and demanded a sack believed to be from Wenchi. They fired multiple warning shots to scare residents.
Yogo alerted the police after hearing gunshots. The police rushed to the scene but found that the robbers had fled. He noted that this is the first time such an incident has occurred in their area.
Police have launched an investigation to catch the suspects. This incident raises concerns about security along regional transport routes. Authorities are being urged to improve road safety and protect commuters from violent crime.
