Ofori-Atta not evading justice; he’s just unwell – Frank Davies

Frank Davies, the lawyer for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has responded to the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) actions. The OSP declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a wanted person. Mr. Davies argues that publicizing charges does not imply guilt.

On June 2, during an interview with Citi Eyewitness News, he emphasized that Mr. Ofori-Atta is not evading justice. He stated that his client is currently unwell and receiving medical treatment abroad.

Mr. Davies expressed concern about how the Special Prosecutor is handling this case. He said, "The justice delivery system should not be treated casually." He added that announcing charges does not make someone guilty.

He assured that Ken Ofori-Atta is simply sick and not fleeing from justice. He challenged Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to understand Mr. Ofori-Atta's health situation.

Earlier on the same day, the OSP officially labeled Mr. Ofori-Atta as wanted for missing multiple invitations to appear in person. The Special Prosecutor mentioned a lack of patience due to repeated delays in an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct.

This investigation includes serious charges like money laundering and causing financial loss to the state. Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team had submitted medical documents requesting virtual engagement due to his health issues.

However, the OSP rejected this request and insisted on a physical appearance instead. With this latest declaration, Mr. Ofori-Atta remains on the list of wanted persons by the OSP.

This situation could lead to international enforcement actions, including a potential INTERPOL Red Notice for him.
