Ofori-Atta not resisting OSP, facing medical travel complications – Ibrahim Adjei

Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary to President Akufo-Addo, has provided clarification. He stated that medical issues are preventing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from attending the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). This statement comes after public interest grew when the OSP issued a notice for Mr. Ofori-Atta to appear on June 2.

Adjei spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on June 2. He dismissed claims that Mr. Ofori-Atta is avoiding the OSP's summons. He emphasized that medical reasons are the only barrier to travel. “He has not refused to come,” Adjei said.

Mr. Ofori-Atta has communicated his location and treatment details while away. His legal team submitted medical documents to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court. These documents outline his condition and upcoming surgeries.

Adjei noted that no one can accuse Mr. Ofori-Atta of making excuses at the last minute. His medical situation existed before the current request from the OSP. The decision now lies with the OSP regarding how to proceed.

On June 1, the OSP warned that failure to appear would have consequences. If he does not show up, he could be declared a fugitive from justice. The OSP may also issue an INTERPOL Red Notice for his arrest.

In light of his ongoing health issues, Mr. Ofori-Atta has requested a virtual meeting with the OSP.
