Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will miss his appearance before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on June 2. Sources say this is due to a sudden decline in his health.
His legal team has informed both the OSP and the Human Rights Court. They provided medical reports detailing his diagnosis and upcoming surgeries.
This situation has raised questions about whether the OSP will label Mr. Ofori-Atta as wanted again. An earlier communication from the OSP suggested this could happen if he did not comply with the summons.
Ofori-Atta is also seeking legal action at the Human Rights Court. He is challenging a previous declaration by the OSP that listed him as wanted.
A judicial ruling on this matter is set for June 18, 2025. The OSP confirmed this in a post on its official X account on May 28.
The post stated, “The Human Rights Court has adjourned to June 18, 2025, for a ruling on a motion filed by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta.” This motion seeks to prevent the OSP from declaring him wanted and other reliefs.
His application also requests that any social media posts calling him a fugitive be removed. While his lawyers have moved this motion, it faces strong opposition from the OSP.
Despite not attending in person, Mr. Ofori-Atta is cooperating with investigators. He has offered to participate in the inquiry virtually.
His team proposed holding a remote session under the Electronic Transactions Act. This would allow the OSP to obtain his Cautioned Statement during his treatment.
The OSP has not yet indicated whether it will accept this proposal.
