Ofori-Atta unable to appear before OSP on June 2 due to health reasons - Frank Davies

Sources close to former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta confirm he will not be in Ghana on June 2. He was scheduled to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

His absence is due to a sudden decline in his health.

Frank Davies, NPP's Director of Legal Affairs, stated that Ofori-Atta’s legal team informed the OSP. They provided medical reports along with this communication. This information has also been shared with the Human Rights Court.

Recently, media outlets reported that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng might declare Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted again if he does not appear. However, Frank Davies argued that such action would be irregular given the current medical situation and ongoing legal matters.

Mr. Ofori-Atta has filed a suit at the Human Rights Court. He is challenging the legality of being declared wanted by the OSP. The court plans to deliver its ruling on June 18, 2025.

The OSP acknowledged this legal challenge in a post on its official X account on May 28, 2025. The post confirmed that the Human Rights Court had adjourned until June 18 for a ruling on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s motion.

This motion seeks to prevent the OSP from making further declarations about him and requests removal of previous statements from social media platforms. The former Finance Minister’s legal team presented this argument, which is contested by the OSP.

Davies noted that since the OSP recognized ongoing court proceedings, it is unlikely they would issue another declaration against Mr. Ofori-Atta as of June 1, 2025.

According to Joy News sources, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have submitted detailed medical documentation to the court. This includes information about scheduled surgical procedures.

Sources also indicate that Mr. Ofori-Atta is willing to participate in an electronic interview with the OSP while he continues his medical treatment.
