Court Sentences Okada Rider for Robbery
Courage Glover, an Okada rider from Ashaiman, received a 15-year prison sentence. He was found guilty of conspiracy and robbery by the Circuit Court in Accra. His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah presided over the case.
Glover faced two charges: conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. These charges violate Sections 23 and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 29/60. His accomplice, known only as Mohammed, is still at large.
Chief Inspector Belinda Asante reported that on April 6, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., Glover and Mohammed approached four men. The victims were Richard Amponsah (a phone repairer), Farouk Iddi (a mobile money vendor), Abubakar Sadiq (also a mobile money vendor), and Francis Osei Bonsu (a barber). They were outside Mawarko Restaurant at Klagon, waiting for a Bolt ride.
Glover threatened the group with a locally made pistol. He robbed them of several items, including an iPhone 13 Pro Max and GH¢200 in cash.
Farouk Iddi bravely resisted by grabbing Glover during the attack. A struggle ensued, causing Glover's pistol to fire. The bullet grazed Iddi’s left thigh but alerted passersby who helped overpower Glover. Meanwhile, Mohammed escaped on their motorbike.
Police later recovered five mobile phones, the pistol, and ammunition from Glover. During questioning, he confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense and firearm use when sentencing Glover to 15 years in prison. Authorities are still searching for Mohammed.
This case has raised concerns about motorcycle-assisted robberies in Greater Accra Region. There is a growing call for tighter surveillance in urban areas.
