One dead at Wiamoase funeral clash

A tragic incident occurred at a funeral in Wiamoase. One person died, and several others were injured by gunfire. This event took place over the weekend in the Sekyere South district of the Ashanti Region.

Nana Boakye Yiadom, the chief of Wiamoase, confirmed these details to The Chronicle. He explained that the funeral was for a young lady who had recently passed away. Around 1 PM, a fight broke out among her family members. During this altercation, someone fired a gunshot, injuring multiple people.

Four injured individuals were taken to the Seventh Adventist Day (SDA) Hospital in Wiamoase. Health officials removed pellets from their bodies during treatment. When asked about arrests, Nana Boakye Yiadom stated that no one had been apprehended yet. He noted that the crowd at the funeral was very large.

Before the funeral, he had informed police to cancel a planned wake for safety reasons. During the event, many offensive weapons were found among attendees, mostly young people.

Enoch Boakye, assembly member for Gyidim Tanoso Electoral area, also confirmed these events. He mentioned that youth at the funeral displayed unruly behavior. They had received warnings about potential troublemakers attending and tried to prepare accordingly.

While heading to the cemetery, miscreants attacked a rickshaw rider without provocation. A police officer on duty was also assaulted by these thugs during this chaos.
