One dead in fire at Madina Redco, over 150 structures destroyed

A devastating fire broke out near the Madina Redco Flats at 11:15 p.m. last night. It engulfed about 140 wooden and 20 metal structures. These structures were used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived at 11:17 p.m. They were joined by teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters Fire Stations.

The fire was fully developed when they arrived. Firefighters brought it under control by 12:02 a.m. They fully contained it by 2:22 a.m.

Sadly, over 150 structures and their contents were destroyed. A young Nigerian woman named Beauty, in her early twenties, was trapped inside. Her charred remains have been given to the Madina Police for investigation.

Thanks to the quick response of the Ghana National Fire Service, more than 200 nearby structures were saved. This includes the Redco Flats.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
