One million coders: We’ll monitor initiative with keen eye – Seth Acheampong

Former Eastern Regional Minister Seth Acheampong has called for fairness in the One Million Coders Programme. He emphasized that the government must implement it impartially. This initiative was launched on Wednesday, April 16.

Acheampong expressed cautious optimism about the programme's benefits. However, he stressed that it must be executed with integrity to help Ghanaian youth. "We hope they will give jobs fairly and without bias," he said during an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 17.

The One Million Coders Programme aims to equip one million young Ghanaians with digital and coding skills. This initiative responds to the growing demands of the global tech industry.

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation Samuel Nartey George announced that 91,847 applications have been received so far. The launch took place in Accra and was streamed to four satellite locations across the country.

The event gathered representatives from technology, academia, development partners, and civil society. It is part of the government's effort to create a digitally literate workforce ready for the future.
