One-month ban on drumming, noise-making in Accra starts on May 12

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the ban on drumming and noise-making. This year, it will start on Monday, May 12, and end on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

In a press release signed by Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Head of Public Affairs, the AMA explained the ban. It follows customs from the Ga Traditional Council. The goal is to ensure peace and national security during the Nmaa Dumↄ period.

Mr. Ankrah stated that churches must conduct activities within their premises. They should not use musical instruments or loudspeakers outside. Roadside evangelists must also stop their activities during this time.

The Assembly urged religious bodies and traditional authorities to show mutual respect. They should avoid derogatory remarks about each other's beliefs.

According to the AMA, all funeral rites and related activities are banned for one month. A designated task force will enforce this ban. It includes AMA personnel, Ghana Police Service members, and representatives from Traditional Councils.

Mr. Ankrah warned that only this task force should enforce noise regulations in Accra. Residents in the Ga traditional area are urged to comply with these guidelines for peaceful observance.
