The OneGhana Movement is a civil society organization. They are calling for accountability and justice for victims of the June 3, 2015 disaster. This disaster involved a flood and fire at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The group demands compensation for affected individuals. They also want legal action against GOIL, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). These organizations are accused of being complicit in the disaster.
They urged the investigating Committee to present a proper report. Additionally, they called on the Government to release its white paper on the findings.
At an event marking ten years since the disaster, Senyo Hosi spoke. He is the Convener of OneGhana Movement. He expressed disappointment over the lack of accountability from government and institutions involved.
"The Committee’s report is still not published," he said. "We cannot accept this lack of accountability and justice." He emphasized that someone failed to do their job.
The disaster occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange GOIL fuel station. It resulted in over 150 deaths and more than 100 injuries.
Sampson Lardy Anyenini is a lawyer representing victims since 2018. He stated that affected individuals seek GH¢42 million in compensation. He hopes for a favorable court ruling but noted inflation has reduced this amount's value.
"With inflation, the value isn’t what it was," he explained. "Even if granted, the government can still help meaningfully."
Thomas Sakyi chairs the June 3 Flood and Fire Victims Association. He appealed for continued support from the government to ease their suffering.
He lamented that aside from initial medical expense compensation, no further assistance has been provided.
"Life has been very difficult for us," he said. "Most lost our means of livelihood."
"We plead with government and individuals to help us; it has not been easy," he added.
