The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has taken control of gold exports. This follows the passage of the Ghana Gold Board Act (ACT 1140), 2025.
On April 14, the Board issued a press statement. It announced that all licenses from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) are now invalid. This includes licenses issued by the Minister responsible for Mines to anyone other than large-scale mining companies.
GoldBod stated it is now the sole buyer, seller, assayer, and exporter of gold from the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector. No one else can export ASM gold from Ghana.
To help with this transition, holders of PMMC licenses can continue operations until April 30, 2025.
Currently, all licensed entities buying gold must do so in Ghana cedis. The price must be based on the Bank of Ghana Reference Rate.
Starting April 22, only those licensed under the new GoldBod Act can deal in gold in Ghana.
