Former Adisadel Electoral Area Assemblyman, Mr. Opia Mensah, has denied a "malicious smear campaign." This follows a false story from a fake website mimicking GhanaWeb.
In a statement dated May 13, 2025, Mr. Mensah rejected claims he went into hiding. He was accused of embezzling GH₵2.3 million through Hasnam Auction Mart's fraudulent auction scheme.
He called the report an attempt to damage his character under the guise of journalism. "I am not on the run," Mensah stated. He added that he has not been pursued by police or any court regarding auction fraud.
"There is no criminal investigation against me," he said. He remains available for any lawful inquiry.
The fake report claimed Mr. Mensah and Alan Kweku Otoo Idun ran a fraudulent auction operation. It alleged they defrauded clients out of money for auction vehicles.
Mr. Mensah dismissed these claims as completely false. He stated he has no connection to Idun and never participated in fraudulent auctions.
The report suggested he collected GH₵2 million from victims but he denied this involvement. "No complaint of this nature has been filed against me," he emphasized.
He demanded a retraction and public apology from the website operators. Failure to comply will lead to legal action to protect his reputation.
Mr. Mensah criticized the platform for not seeking his side before publishing allegations. He called this a violation of journalistic ethics and a disregard for truth.
