The Opokua Ahwenee Foundation has donated essential hospital equipment to the Akwasiho Health Centre. This donation aims to improve healthcare delivery in the Kwahu area.
The donation follows an Adom News report about the facility’s logistical challenges. Abena Opokua Ahwenee, the foundation's founder and an Adom FM/TV journalist, visited the centre. She found an unfinished facility with stalled construction due to lack of funds. The centre has potential to greatly enhance healthcare services.
Motivated by this situation, she mobilized critical medical supplies for the facility. The supplies include stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and pulse oximeters. Other items are ECG machines, hospital beds, wheelchairs, medical stools, patient chairs, first aid kits, and defibrillators.
Additional donations included stretchers, hand sanitizers, disinfectant sprays, gloves, masks, and eye protection like goggles and face shields.
During the presentation of items, Abena Opokua Ahwenee explained that this initiative supports health and education in Kwahu communities. “Our goal is to help bridge gaps in healthcare and education,” she stated. She noted that they responded to needs at Akwasiho Health Centre with necessary equipment.
She urged staff to maintain the items properly for long-term community service.
Physician Assistant Hilda Korfiannor received the items on behalf of the health centre. She expressed gratitude to both the Foundation and Adom News for their timely support. Korfi Annor said that donated equipment would help address critical challenges at the facility.
She also appealed for more support for delivery beds and facility expansion to serve a growing population better.
Members of Kwahuman Europe attended in solidarity. They pledged to help mobilize additional equipment and provide ongoing support for the health centre.
