The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received the final report from its committee. This committee was led by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye. They investigated the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The report was presented at an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. This meeting took place on Wednesday, April 16, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The 12-member committee examined why the NPP lost both the presidency and its parliamentary majority.
The party lost the presidency to John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress. It also saw a significant decline in parliamentary seats. After receiving the report, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed its receipt.
He assured that they would communicate its contents and recommendations soon. He stated, “Today, [Wednesday, April 16], the Committee submitted their report to the National Council.” The National Council accepted this report.
Frimpong emphasized that internal reflection is necessary before public disclosure. In response to the findings, NPP has formed a nine-member committee to review its constitution. This aims to address structural issues identified by the Oquaye Committee.
The goal is to strengthen internal mechanisms and prevent future electoral setbacks. Key party figures attended the emergency meeting, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Other attendees included former running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
