Osahen To Government: We Will Hold Your Feet To The Fire

Alexander Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has made a strong commitment. He stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus will be vigilant and formidable. The House reconvenes on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, after its recent recess.

After a strategy meeting on Sunday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin spoke to the media. He said, “This morning we met as a caucus to strategize for Parliament's second meeting.” The meeting included committee leaders planning how to be effective. They aim to ensure that the right things are done in Ghana.

He emphasized their commitment to democracy. “We want the good of democracy,” he said. He also sent a message to their opponents: they will hold them accountable. Additionally, he assured Ghanaians that they are ready to govern in 2028.

Despite being the smallest caucus, the Minority has a strong reputation. They stand firm on parliamentary business and defend public interest effectively. Their role during ministerial nominee vetting earlier this year highlighted this commitment. They subjected each nominee to thorough scrutiny and asked tough questions.

Parliament went on recess on Friday, March 28, 2025, for Easter festivities. It will resume tomorrow for the second meeting of the Third Session of the 8th Parliament. With renewed resolve and sharpened strategy, intense debates are expected ahead. Deeper oversight and an engaged legislative session are also anticipated.
