Joseph Osei-Owusu, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has endorsed Alexander Afenyo-Markin to continue as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Majority Leader in the ninth Parliament, set to begin on January 7, 2025.
Osei-Owusu praised Afenyo-Markin for his experience, strength, and leadership qualities, noting that his extensive tenure makes him the most qualified to lead the NPP Caucus in a politically charged environment.
He also emphasized the need for a "combative" leader to ensure the NPP's voice is heard, despite the current power dynamics in Parliament.
Afenyo-Markin, who was appointed Majority Leader in February 2024, is seen as a key figure in the upcoming legislative session.
