The Osu Children’s Home has not received any budget since 2025.
On May 22, the parliamentary committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare visited. They aimed to assess the development and challenges of the facility.
Reindolf Dartey, the Supervisor at Osu Children’s Home, spoke to the committee. He identified funding as a major challenge for the facility.
In 2024, only GHC16,000 was allocated to them. Their monthly expenses are GHC120,000. They mainly rely on donations from individuals and NGOs.
Dartey stated that this year they have received nothing. Last year’s allocation only covered electricity bills.
He also mentioned an influx of children with special needs as a challenge. The home is not structured to accommodate these children properly.
Dartey explained that different needs require different accommodations. For example, a room suitable for an able child may not work for a child with epilepsy or mental health issues.
This situation continues to be a significant concern for the home.
