The Osu Kinkawe Dzaase has warned the US Embassy and other diplomats. They should not associate with Bernard Botchway, also known as Nortse Nii Nortey Owuo IV. He claims to be the Osu Mantse.
The Dzaase also cautioned against dealings with Ishmael Adumuah. The Dzaase states that he has been dismissed as Oshiahene of Osu.
“Both Bernard Botchway and Ishmael Adumuah are not gazetted Chiefs in Ghana,” said a statement from the Dzaase. “There are duly gazetted Chiefs in Osu. The US Embassy can contact us for assistance.”
The Dzaase is the only authority allowed to install an Osu Mantse. Bernard Botchway has been restrained by the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs from claiming this title.
Nii Saban Atsen VII, head of the Dzaase, signed the statement. He stated that Botchway is not the legitimate Osu Mantse and is under a restraining order.
Botchway has been cited for contempt at the High Court for breaching this order. His trial is currently ongoing.
Ishmael Adumuah, who supported Botchway, has been dismissed as Oshiahene. Therefore, he cannot represent the Osu Stool.
Meanwhile, some elders of the Osu Stool have cautioned Cantonments Police. They oppose any harassment of youth members from OPPUM (Osu for Peace, Progress and Unity Movement).
Sources say Reginald Opintan, PRO of OPPUM, was invited by Cantonments Police after issuing a statement against Botchway's collaboration with the US Embassy.
“How can we persecute leaders seeking peace while ignoring court defiers?” they asked.
They emphasized that if anyone should be invited by police, it should be Botchway and Adumuah. Their actions create insecurity in Osu.
The elders warned against unprofessional conduct from police officers. They urged the IGP to ensure high standards of integrity at Cantonments Police Station.
