The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation recently celebrated 25 years of success. It has transformed lives in deprived communities across Ghana.
At the Jubilee Hall of Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene spoke about the Foundation's origins. He founded it after ascending the Golden Stool. His goal was to advance Asanteman and Ghana through dignity and opportunity.
The Foundation's first major act was supporting 600 students. This support came from the Otumfuo Education Fund for students in three public universities.
Over time, the Foundation expanded its vision. It initiated transformative projects across various sectors. In 2009, all efforts were consolidated into the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.
Today, the Foundation focuses on education, health, water and sanitation, culture, and heritage. The Asantehene aimed for unity and efficiency with this re-organization.
He expressed pride in their achievements so far. The journey of the Foundation has been inspiring and humbling.
The Asantehene reflected on history and progress. He noted that strength today comes from knowledge and unity, not weapons.
Educational Infrastructure
With World Bank support, over 740 school structures have been built or renovated. This includes 46 new classroom blocks and repairs to old buildings. The Foundation also donated over 980,000 desks to schools.
More than 1,000 children received essential supplies like textbooks and computers. "We have reached schools in areas where state support is lacking," said Otumfuo.
To mark its Silver Jubilee, former President John Agyekum Kufuor launched an Endowment Fund. This fund aims to ensure long-term sustainability for the Foundation’s projects.
Donors were recognized based on their contributions with certificates and plaques. Categories included Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond levels.
Contributors included Unijay, All-Star Insurance Limited, Fidelity Bank, and others.
Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II emphasized the need for scholarships through this fund. He urged everyone to help ensure no child is denied education due to poverty.
"Let us support our teachers and clinics," he said. "Together we can invest in a future where Ghana flourishes."
Notable attendees included Lady Julia Osei Tutu; former President Kufuor; British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson; Most Rev. Joseph Osei Bonsu; and Alhaji Yussif Ibrahim.
