Otumfuo mediation will deliver lasting peace in Bawku – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the recent violence in Bawku. He believes that the peace process led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will bring stability.

On April 10, Bawku experienced violent clashes between police and youth. Reports indicate there were deaths and injuries during this confrontation. The private residence of MP Mahama Ayariga was also allegedly set on fire.

Speaking at the Ghana Military Academy's Graduation Parade on April 11, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace. He noted that the Ghana Armed Forces are addressing various threats to national security. Bawku is a major flashpoint for these issues.

“Just two days ago, a market incident led to loss of life and vandalism,” he said. “No one benefits from this conflict or insecurity.”

He highlighted the importance of the mediation process initiated by the Asantehene. This process involves all key stakeholders working together for peace. “The Otumfuo mediation process will resume next week after his brief trip abroad,” he stated.

President Mahama also promised to investigate all allegations of criminal activity thoroughly. “We take crime seriously and will pursue criminals, regardless of who they are,” he said. However, he emphasized that resources and time are limited for any deceptive practices.
