Our best bet in tackling corruption is the OSP – Kissi Agyebeng declares

Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, believes the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is Ghana’s best tool against corruption.

He stated that the OSP is the strongest and most effective means to fight corruption. At a high-level conference on anti-corruption, he explained that the OSP model is unique. It addresses shortcomings of traditional methods used in the past.

Agyebeng emphasized that this model controls investigations and criminal proceedings. For the first time, it targets both public officers and private sector individuals.

Atik Mohammed, a policy analyst, criticized Agyebeng's performance. He claimed Agyebeng lives lavishly but has not achieved successful prosecutions.

Mohammed said Ghana has wasted funds on the OSP without seeing results. He pointed out that only one successful prosecution has occurred under Agyebeng's leadership.

He remarked that during Martin Amidu’s tenure, there was more fear of the office. Now, he claims Agyebeng just appears in media without real action.

Mohammed also criticized Agyebeng for excessive travel and spending. He questioned how effective leadership can occur with so much time spent flying.

He expressed frustration over Agyebeng's lack of updates on certain cases. According to him, transparency is required by law for all ongoing cases and losses.

Overall, he feels that current operations do not meet expectations set by previous administrations.
