The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has firmly dissociated itself from reports suggesting its currency transport boxes are being used for criminal activities.

In a statement titled “Use and Misuse of Bank of Ghana Currency Transport Boxes,” the BoG stressed that while these sturdy boxes are sometimes repurposed after official use, any criminal application is unauthorized and damaging.

“These boxes do not carry our endorsement once reused,” the Bank emphasized, warning against false associations that threaten its credibility. It called on law enforcement to investigate such misuse and prosecute offenders.

The central bank noted that although commercial banks may return the boxes or use them for storage, any involvement in unlawful acts must be treated seriously.

BoG insists its operations remain professional and should not be undermined by visual associations.
