Over 1,300 ECG containers went missing from Tema Port

**Over 1,300 Containers Missing from Tema Port**

An audit revealed that over 1,300 containers went missing at Tema Port. These containers belonged to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The findings were presented to Energy Minister John Jinapor.

Initially, ECG claimed it had 2,491 uncleared containers. These contained cables and other equipment. However, the audit found only 1,134 containers. This left 1,347 containers unaccounted for.

ECG had a fund for clearing these containers but stopped receiving allocations. The board cited a lack of funds as the reason. During this time, ECG awarded contracts to two firms for clearing.

One of these companies did not have the necessary license for the contract. This raised concerns about procurement violations. Additionally, ECG’s procurement directorate merged with its Housing and Estate unit.

Background checks on the Procurement Director showed he lacked experience in procurement. He was also not a member of any professional procurement body.
