On Wednesday, November 27, a trained Kayayoo (head porter) bus driver took Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on a ride through town to mark the commissioning of electric buses.
The event celebrated the graduation of over 100 Kayayei, women head porters, who were trained to drive electric buses, enhancing their employability and livelihoods.
Dr. Bawumia, also the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, highlighted that the electric buses would reduce passenger fares by 40-50%.
The initiative aligns with the government's efforts to promote sustainable transportation and empower marginalized groups.
The project is seen as a step toward modernizing Ghana's transport sector and advancing social and economic inclusion.
