Over 2000 foreign beggars arrested in Accra – GIS

The Ghana Immigration Service has arrested over 2,241 foreign beggars in Accra.

The operation took place in various strategic locations across the city. It resulted in the arrest of 384 adult males, 525 adult females, 577 male children, and 755 female children.

Michael Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Relations, spoke at a press briefing on May 16. He said buses will transport these individuals back to their countries after profiling.

The swoop occurred on Friday morning. It targeted areas like Kotoka International Airport, Madina, Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Abossey Okai.

Amoako-Atta confirmed that all arrested individuals are undergoing profiling. The Immigration Service aims to prevent any perceived national security threats through these measures.
