Over 3,000 affected by floods at Odawna Sahara – NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed severe flooding in Greater Accra. Over 3,000 people have been affected by the floods at Odawna Sahara.

JoyNews correspondent James Avedzi reported that heavy rains caused significant flooding on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Many residents are now displaced, with homes and businesses underwater.

Mr. Hendrick Noble Kinnah is the Director of NADMO for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly. He said poor waste disposal practices contributed to the flooding. He also outlined measures to prevent future incidents.

Kinnah confirmed that over 3,000 households were impacted by the recent floods in Odorna Sahara. He mentioned a Sister City program to help manage waste better.

In other parts of Greater Accra, the rains resulted in several fatalities. Ella Esiman Nongo is the Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan Municipal Assembly. She confirmed three deaths due to the torrential rains on Sunday.

Two victims were from Lakeside: a four-year-old girl and a man near New Legon. The flooding followed nearly three hours of continuous rainfall starting around 3:00 p.m. Major roads were submerged, cutting off access to many communities.

Other affected areas included Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adenta-Dodowa, Tema, and nearby towns.
