Ghana has reported 4,650 fire incidents from January to September 2024, with urbanisation and poor housing in Accra blamed for many of the fires.
Alex King Nartey from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said slum areas, built with flammable materials like wood, are highly prone to fires.
Electrical faults also contribute significantly, especially during rainy weather.
To address this, the GNFS is increasing fire safety education, restoring fire trucks, and stepping up patrols.
They are urging the public to follow fire safety rules to help reduce the rising number of incidents.
