Death Toll Update: A controversial refereeing decision sparked violence and a crush at a soccer match in southeast Guinea, killing 56 people according to a provisional toll, the government said on Monday.
Dozens of people lost their lives on Sunday during violent clashes between football fans in N'Zerekore, Guinea’s second-largest city. There were scenes of mass bodies overflowing the local hospital. “There are bodies everywhere in the hospital, even on the floors in the hallways. The morgue is full,” a doctor said, estimating around 56 dead. Another doctor confirmed "dozens of deaths," according to a media source.
