Over 600 casual workers on the Ofankor to Nsawam road rehabilitation project have halted work, demanding payment of three months' salary arrears.
The workers claim their employers abruptly suspended the project without notice, leaving many of them stranded and unpaid as the festive season approaches.
Anefi Andor, their leader, told Citi News that workers are facing severe hardships, with some enduring weeks without proper food or financial support.
“We left our families and are now struggling to survive while they tell us there’s no money,” he lamented.
The stoppage has disrupted the project, a key part of the government’s plan to dualise the Accra-Kumasi road, causing significant inconvenience for commuters relying on the route.
