The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is providing cash grants.
These bi-monthly grants support 813 people accused of witchcraft.
The program is part of the Livelihoods Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative.
It aims to offer relief to those unjustly accused.
Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Sector Minister, addressed an urgent question from MP Francis-Xavier Sosu.
She discussed government measures to protect those accused of witchcraft.
The Ministry has increased awareness campaigns in affected communities.
Dr. Lartey urged traditional leaders and the public to help end harmful superstitions.
In 2022, the Ministry proposed changes to the Criminal Offences Act of 1960.
This amendment aims to ban witch doctors and witch-finders from practicing.
The Ministry has also contacted the Attorney-General for legal action against these practices.
Dr. Lartey expressed hope for bipartisan support for this amendment.
She encouraged those stigmatized by witchcraft accusations to seek legal help.
Finally, Dr. Lartey appealed to citizens not to accuse others of being witches or wizards.
