PBC workers demand urgent gov’t intervention to revive operations

Workers at the Produce Buying Company (PBC) are calling for government help. The cocoa-buying firm is facing serious financial problems and inefficiencies.

They believe PBC deserves the same support as the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). This support is crucial as the country works to recover its economy.

The workers demand a new Chief Executive Officer to lead PBC out of crisis. They are represented by the Pressure Group of PBC Limited.

Many employees have not received their salaries for several months. This issue affects both their livelihoods and the company's operations.

In an interview with Citi News, Vice Chairman Seth Adusei stressed that immediate action is needed. He said, “PBC should have a new CEO to show staff that their concerns matter.”

He pointed out that COCOBOD has significant government interest despite its debt of about 32 billion. He questioned why PBC does not receive similar attention from the government.

In January 2024, six banks, including Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), obtained a court order. This order prevents the sale or transfer of PBC’s assets, including its headquarters in Accra.

Following this situation, PBC workers protested over their unpaid salaries for one year.
