PHFAoG resumes services to NHIS cardholders after NHIA assurance

The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has canceled its plan to suspend services for NHIS cardholders. This decision follows a strong assurance from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The NHIA promised to settle outstanding claims by Monday, April 7, 2025.

Initially, the suspension was set to begin on Friday, April 4, 2025. PHFAoG had concerns about delayed reimbursements. These delays caused severe financial challenges in the private healthcare sector.

After a meeting with NHIA management, PHFAoG received renewed commitment from the NHIA. They assured that all outstanding payments would be cleared by close of business on April 7. Therefore, PHFAoG agreed to halt the suspension for now.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 6, PHFAoG said they received firm assurance of payment from NHIA. They decided to suspend their ongoing action in good faith. However, they warned that if NHIA fails to honor this promise, drastic action may follow.

Dr. Asare Bampoe is the Chief Executive Officer of NHIA. He reiterated his commitment to improving the reimbursement process. He aims to help build a stronger healthcare sector in Ghana.

All private healthcare facilities are advised to follow this directive closely. They should continue providing healthcare services effectively for a healthy population as directed by PHFAoG.
