The Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) is launching a “School Farm Initiative.” This program partners with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and GETFUND. It aims to turn underutilized school lands into productive agricultural ventures.
On May 13, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor shared details on Facebook. He announced that a joint technical team has been formed with GES and GETFUND. This team will begin the rollout process for the initiative.
The goal is to convert idle lands in secondary schools into agricultural zones. Dr. Otokunor stated, “Last week, we engaged GES on our ‘School Farm Initiative.’” The initiative focuses on establishing farms in high schools to boost food production in Ghana.
He highlighted that this effort aligns with John Mahama’s vision of food sovereignty and modernization in agriculture. Dr. Otokunor said, “This initiative aims to produce food consumed in schools.” It seeks to reduce costs associated with procuring food for these institutions.
