The People’s National Party (PNP) has accused President John Dramani Mahama of breaching Ghana’s constitutional mandates on gender equality in governance.
In a petition to key religious bodies, including the Christian Council and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the PNP criticized the President for failing to implement the 2024 Affirmative Action Act, which mandates a minimum 30% female representation in government appointments.
According to the party, women make up only 16% of ministers, 14% of deputy ministers, and just 10% of cabinet ministers.
The PNP urged religious leaders to challenge the President’s appointments, insisting that gender parity must be upheld as promised.
The party warns that ignoring legal mandates undermines democratic principles and women’s rightful place in governance.
