PNP youth wing condemns arrest of Adenta Kumi

The Youth Wing of the People’s National Party (PNP) has condemned the arrest of Mr. Alfred Ababio Kumi. He is also known as Adenta Kumi. He was a former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Adenta, Greater Accra Region.

In a statement from Muniru Muhammed, the PNP’s National Youth Organiser, the arrest was described as troubling. It allegedly occurred during a dawn raid by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). This action undermines democratic engagement among Ghana’s youth.

“This arrest sends a worrying signal to Ghana's youth,” Muniru said. Young people are increasingly finding their voices against injustice and corruption. They are speaking out about the misuse of public office.

Mr. Muhammed stated that such acts intimidate young people. They could suppress a generation that should be encouraged to hold public institutions accountable. He emphasized that Ghana's progress depends on young people's full participation in governance.

“Ghana needs jobs, opportunities, and hope for its youth,” he said. “We need to avoid fear, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests.”

The PNP Youth Wing has called for Mr. Kumi’s immediate release if due process was not followed. They demand full transparency from the NIB regarding the reasons for his arrest.

“All state institutions must operate within the law,” Mr. Muhammed insisted. They must uphold every citizen's rights and dignity.

Reaffirming their commitment to democratic freedoms, he stated that the PNP will defend young Ghanaians' rights. The party aims to ensure Ghana remains a beacon of democracy in Africa.
