The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has supported the suspension of Ghana's Chief Justice.
They believe President John Mahama acted lawfully under the 1992 Constitution.
The party emphasized that due process was followed in this matter.
This included consulting with the Council of State and allowing the Chief Justice to respond to allegations.
In a press release dated April 28, the PPP stated their firm belief in the legality of the suspension.
They said it complied fully with due process as outlined in the Constitution.
The party noted that the President's actions were based on a preliminary case against the Chief Justice.
The PPP expressed concern over the Ghana Bar Association's (GBA) call for a "suspension of the CJ's suspension."
They described this call as "perplexing" and potentially threatening to constitutional order.
According to their statement, such calls threaten democratic principles and suggest selective law application.
Chairman Nana Ofori Owusu highlighted accountability, referencing the 2018 removal of Electoral Commission members.
He pointed out that their removal was justified due to misbehavior and incompetence, validated by the Supreme Court.
The PPP urged all parties to remain calm during this process.
They called for respect for constitutional procedures without interference.
"The Constitution is our supreme law," they affirmed, applicable to everyone at all times.
The statement concluded with a plea for unity and adherence to rule of law.
This reinforces the PPP's commitment to democratic governance.
