The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has launched a Legal Support Desk. This desk is located at its headquarters in Accra. It aims to provide legal assistance to members in their line of duty.
In a statement, PRINPAG's Executive Secretary Jeorge Wilson Kingson and President Edwin Andrew Arthur explained the initiative. They noted a recent increase in invitations, arrests, and detentions of editors and publishers. These incidents are related to stories published by their media outlets.
The National Executive Council has arranged for dedicated legal professionals. These professionals will be on standby to support any member facing legal challenges. Members who receive an invitation or face arrest should contact the PRINPAG Secretariat for help.
While offering this support, PRINPAG encourages members to uphold high standards. Professionalism, responsibility, and ethics are essential in their work as media practitioners.
The Legal Support Desk is part of broader services offered by PRINPAG. The Association also organizes training workshops, recognition awards, and welfare programs. These initiatives aim to promote excellence and professional development within Ghana’s media landscape.
PRINPAG is committed to fostering a strong, independent media. It maintains formal representation on the National Media Commission and other constitutional bodies as outlined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
