PURC and ECG engage Avadre residents on electricity use

The Volta Regional Directorate of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) recently engaged residents of Avadre about electricity use.

Avadre was connected to the national electricity grid under the Self-Help Electrification Programme (SHEP).

The Assemblyman, Mr. Prosper Agbeli, facilitated this community outreach. Representatives from PURC, ECG District Manager, and local residents attended.

The focus was on educating residents about responsible electricity usage. They learned about their rights and obligations as consumers.

Mr. Samuel Diasempa, ECG Akatsi District Manager, emphasized safe and efficient electricity use. He urged residents to avoid illegal connections and protect ECG’s infrastructure.

Residents were advised to report faults or suspicious activities promptly. They were also reminded to pay their bills on time to avoid service interruptions.

The ECG team discussed recent developments in customer meter registration in Avadre. This is part of efforts for accurate billing and improved service delivery.

They provided information on lodging complaints and understanding tariff structures. Residents learned about their consumer rights during this session.

Emmanuel Agbesi Foli, PURC Volta/Oti Public Relations Officer, explained the Commission’s functions. These include receiving complaints and settling disputes between consumers and utility providers.

He educated attendees on consumer rights and responsibilities regarding timely bill payments. He stressed that delays in capturing customer meters lead to accumulated bills.

Participants appreciated the initiative as timely and informative. They raised concerns about meter placement, billing clarity, and service reliability during an interactive session.

Mr. Agbeli thanked PURC and ECG for their efforts on behalf of the community. He called for more frequent engagements due to the success of this education session.

This outreach is part of a broader initiative by PURC and ECG. It aims to strengthen public awareness and promote sustainable energy use in newly electrified areas across the Volta Region.
