PURC commends ECG for improved revenue collection in 2025

Dr. Shafic Suleman, Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), praised the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). He noted their improved revenue collection in early 2025.

His comments came during a visit to ECG's Ashanti West Region on April 4, 2025. This visit was part of his regional tour in the Ashanti Region. Dr. Suleman and his team met with ECG management to discuss operations.

He thanked the ECG management for attending his invitation. All District and Regional Managers were present at the meeting. Dr. Suleman highlighted ECG's significant progress in revenue collection this year.

He urged ECG to keep working hard to sustain electricity supply. “ECG has collected almost GHS 1.4 billion monthly since January,” he said. This achievement is crucial for maintaining power services.

As Chairman of the Cash Waterfall Mechanism, he promised continuous cash flow for ECG’s operations. He recently engaged with the Energy Minister about upgrading ECG’s status under this mechanism.

Dr. Suleman aims to foster collaboration between utilities and customers. He wants to improve relationships with ECG at all levels, including Regional and District offices.

To enhance communication, he proposed creating a WhatsApp platform for stakeholders. This includes utilities, customers, security agencies, and government representatives.

Alhaji Jabaru Abukari from PURC encouraged staff to be patient with customers. He also urged customers to pay their electricity bills on time.

George Amoah, General Manager of Ashanti West Region, supported Dr. Suleman's collaborative approach. He called for stronger regulations against unauthorized meter imports.

Amoah expressed concern over current laws not being strict enough against fake meters. These illegal meters increase losses for ECG and harm service delivery.

He requested PURC work with the Energy Commission on stricter regulations against illegal connections and meter imports.

Dr. Suleman was accompanied by several PURC officials during his visit, including Alhaji Jabaru Abukari and Dr. Eric Kofi Obutey among others.
