A painter has been accused of stealing electrical cables from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) building at Ridge. He has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
Ahmed Mohammed Lawal was granted bail set at GH₵1 million with two sureties.
Judge Isaac Addo ordered the prosecution to follow disclosure rules. The case has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.
Mr. Lawal faces charges of unlawful entry and theft of cables worth GH₵1,035,500. He denies these charges.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Agustin Kingsley Oppong, presented the complainants' details. Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang are a safety officer and an electrical engineer at the construction site.
On February 16, 2025, they discovered a break-in at the Energy Farm on site. They found that someone had stolen copper cables valued at GH₵1,035,500.
The prosecution reviewed CCTV footage showing Mr. Lawal and two others stealing the cables from the Energy Farm. The bundles of electrical cables were stored there.
According to the prosecutor, the complainants caught Mr. Lawal and turned him over to police. Investigations revealed he entered through a scaffold and cut the copper cables with a sharp object.
He then sold some cables for GH₵2,000 at Kwame Nkrumah Circles. Mr. Lawal could not help police arrest his accomplices or the alleged receiver of stolen goods.
