Parliament adjourned to January 2 as Finance Minister fails to present mini-Budget

Ghana’s Parliament has adjourned to January 2, 2024, without the presentation of the 2025 Mini-Budget by Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, a key constitutional requirement outlining fiscal plans for the incoming year.

This missed opportunity has sparked political contention.

Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson criticized the delay, emphasizing its impact on a smooth transition and warning that the absence of an appropriation act could leave the public sector unfunded in early 2025.

He assured Ghanaians that an NDC-led administration, taking office in January 2025, would address these issues promptly.

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin attributed the delay to minority disruptions but assured the budget would be presented when Parliament reconvenes.

The adjournment highlights ongoing fiscal and political tensions in Ghana’s governance.
