Parliament has approved a GH¢1.2 billion budget for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. This funding will help advance Ghana’s renewable energy sector.
The allocation is for the 2025 fiscal year. It will support initiatives to improve electricity distribution and promote sustainability.
The Ministry plans to procure and install one million smart meters in operational areas. This is part of their Programme for Results policy. The goal is to enhance efficiency and service delivery in electricity distribution.
Additionally, the Ministry aims to involve the private sector. This could bring new expertise and investment into the energy sector.
The Accra-Kumasi transmission line project will also begin soon. This project promises better power supply reliability between these two major cities.
Ghana is committed to achieving net-zero energy-related carbon emissions by 2060. The Government Goes Solar project will promote clean energy solutions.
This initiative aligns with Ghana’s Energy Transition Framework. The framework focuses on deploying low-carbon solutions across key sectors of the economy.
