Parliament has set up a nine-member committee, chaired by Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda, to explore pension models for former legislators.

This follows a proposal by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga to establish a pension fund using carbon credit proceeds.

Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, speaking on the floor of Parliament on January 29, urged the committee to submit its report within 45 days.

The committee includes Samson Ahi, Atta Issah, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, and Alhassan Suhuyini from the Minority side, while Stephen Amoah and Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru represent the Majority.

The initiative seeks to provide financial security for former MPs.

With a six-week timeline, the committee is expected to propose a sustainable pension model tailored to lawmakers' needs.
